Ghost Jobs and AI Spam: The SaaS Hiring Breakdown

Why Hiring Managers and Job Seekers Are Both Exhausted

By Stin Mattu (Co-Founder @ AvailableTalent)

Faded ghost job listings around one verified, lime-green listing

As humans, we have seen abundance in every age, linked tightly to strong industries emerging and driving growth through employment to meet the demands of creating, maintaining and developing new products and services.

We are in the midst of one of those opportunistic ages, but why does it feel so different this time round?

There is no doubt about the growth of the Software as a Service (SaaS) market, just in the last year Software as a Service (SaaS) market expanded by approximately 14% to 19% year-over-year, climbing from roughly $465 billion in 2025 to over $530 billion in 2026 according to a Market Analysis Report prepared by Grand View Research. With predictions of the Saas market reaching anything between an estimated $1.3 trillion by the middle of the next decade, the expectation would be a labour market with healthy recruitment and progression pathways.

Yet behind the surging valuations and 108% year-over-year increase in AI-native software spend (Zylo), the SaaS recruitment ecosystem is fundamentally broken. Instead of seamless matches, the industry is locked in a cycle of mutual burnout where top-tier SaaS professionals find it increasingly difficult to get noticed, while desperate hiring managers can’t find qualified talent.

“The SaaS recruitment ecosystem is fundamentally broken.”

For SaaS job seekers, looking for a new role has become an exercise in navigating a hall of mirrors. According to Greenhouse's AI Trust Crisis research, 69% of job seekers have encountered fake or "ghost" job postings, with Greenhouse platform data confirming that 18% to 22% of all listed roles in a typical quarter are ghost jobs that companies have no immediate intention of filling. The tech sector is the worst offender: a study of nearly 97,000 job ads revealed that 43% of tech listings remain lingering on boards for 30 days or more, higher than any other industry. Even when candidates apply to legitimate roles, 75% never hear back after submitting an application, and 61% report being ghosted after completing interviews (Greenhouse; Enhancv).

A hall of mirrors: 69% of job seekers have hit ghost job postings; 18 to 22% of listed roles are ghost jobs; 75% never hear back after applying; 61% are ghosted after completing interviews.

Don’t even get me started on Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), that will have to be it’s own blog, but to service this never ending black hole, candidates seem to have created another issue to feed the cycle with mass-application automation .According to Resume Now's AI and the Applicant Report, 90% of employers report a massive spike in low-effort, spam type applications driven by AI tools, and 94% have encountered misleading or fabricated credentials created by AI. This leave SaaS hiring managers buried under a mountain of generic noise, leading to 78% of companies actively using ATS to screen for AI-written resumes and 62% to automatically reject unpersonalized applications just to keep their heads above water.

The AI arms race: 90% of employers report a spike in AI-driven applications; 94% have seen fabricated AI credentials; 78% use ATS to screen for AI-written CVs; 62% automatically reject unpersonalised applications.

Rather than speeding up recruitment, this technological arms race has ground the SaaS hiring funnel to a halt. Trust on both sides is being eroded and the human to human connections is being stress tested in an unprecedented manner.

The result is a toxic stalemate of bidirectional ghosting and lost revenue. While data from Pin shows 53% of job seekers were ghosted by employers over the past year (a three-year high), SHRM and Fortune reports highlight that 41% of organizations now experience candidates ghosting them mid-interview as fatigued applicants jump at whichever offer materializes first. With the average non-executive cost-per-hire coming in at $5,475 (much higher for specialized SaaS engineering and GTM roles) there are real costs beyond the delay in getting the right talent, in the right seat, at the right time

Everyone is ghosting everyone: 53% of job seekers ghosted by employers; 41% of organisations ghosted by candidates mid-interview; $5,475 average non-executive cost-per-hire.

This is why it is time to step off the treadmill of ghost jobs, AI resume spam, and 20-stage interview marathons. SaaS professionals are ready to be seen for their actual track record and skills, while hiring managers are looking to bypass the noise and connect directly with vetted, ready-to-move SaaS talent.

The fix starts with transparency, and this is why we created availabletalent.io, to connect real opportunities from companies who are verified, with talent who are ready to take them on. No data farming, no testing the water, on both sides the intention is clear, hire people with the best experience in the quickest way possible.
